Shortage design

Special Education is a critical shortage area in Kansas. This license pathway gives expedited access to practice for experienced special education paraprofessional, for the High Incidence and Low Incidence routes. Special Education in Kansas has been an add-on endorsement to a general education license. This program provides a direct entry para-to-teacher option.

Credential issued

Limited Apprentice Licenses are issued following completion of required first 6 credit hours of coursework requirements. Low Incidence candidates must have one full year of Special Education paraprofessional experience to qualify for acceptance into the program.

Clinical experience

Candidates teach under their Limited Residency License they are supervised by the college/university and school district's mentor teacher.

Other requirements

The program is available to any college or university who offers a High Incidence or Low Incidence Special Education program. Those who have had candidates for the license are noted above.
