Shortage design
Candidates are required to earn at least one endorsement in a state-defined subject or geographic shortage area (https://www.pesb.wa.gov/workforce/educator-shortage). PESB provides a quantitative definition and identifies statewide and regional shortages, as well as a qualitative definition that allows for a process to designate local shortages.
Credential issued
Candidates earn a Washington State Residency certificate upon completion of the program.
Clinical experience
A year-long mentored internship is required prior to Route 3 program completion.
Other requirements
External validation of qualifications, including demonstrated successful experiences with students or children, such as reference letters and letters of support from previous employers and meeting the age, good moral character, and personal fitness requirements.
