Shortage design

Current classified instructional employees tend to serve in high needs subject and geographic areas. Classified employees also tend to live in the district that they serve and more closely represent the demographics of the parents and students in the district. Additionally, candidates are required to earn at least one endorsement in a state-defined subject or geographic shortage area (https://www.pesb.wa.gov/workforce/educator-shortage). PESB provides a quantitative definition and identifies statewide and regional shortages, as well as a qualitative definition that allows for a process to designate local shortages.

Credential issued

Candidates earn a Washington State Residency certificate upon completion of the program.

Clinical experience

A year-long mentored internship is required prior to Route 2 program completion.

Other requirements

a. One year of successful student interaction and leadership as a classified instructional employee and meeting the age, good moral character, and personal fitness requirements adopted by rule for teachers. b. Must be employed with the district at the time of application.
