An Alternative Teaching Certificate may be issued to an applicant who is offered employment in a shortage area (an endorsement area identified by the county superintendent as one in which the county does not have fully certified applicants for a position).
Credential issued
The Alternative Teaching Certificate valid for one year is issued to those who qualify and may be renewed twice if adequate progress is being made by the alternative certification candidate.
Clinical experience
Since employment is required, the clinical experience is ongoing.
Other requirements
Upon successful completion of the AC Program, the applicant, upon meeting all criteria, may apply for a "provisional" professional (non-transferable) license and must hold this license for at least 2 years (renewable yearly) in the area of endorsement before the individual can apply for an initial professional teaching license.
